Paper Folding Lifeboat

Aiming at the actual problem of insufficient number of lifeboats in the ship's stockpile, the Paper Folding Lifeboat offers a unique solution. Inspired by the folding structure of the origami boat, this innovative design saves space and adds more lifeboats to ships.

The Paper Folding Lifeboat features a simple structure composed of nine thickened buoyancy boards and soft links made of reflective materials. This design ensures ease of operation, with all actions completed in one step by unfastening the three straps in turn. Additionally, the lifeboat can be easily fixed at the desired angle using the positioning lock.

The dimensions of the Paper Folding Lifeboat are as follows: Open - L4480mm W2010mm H1110mm, Fold - L5020mm W980mm H930mm. This compact size allows for efficient storage and deployment on ships.

By combining the origami structure with the feasibility of lifeboats, the Paper Folding Lifeboat provides passengers with more possibilities to survive in shipwrecks. Its innovative design and functionality make it a valuable addition to maritime safety.

The development of the Paper Folding Lifeboat was a collaborative effort by the Industrial Design College of LAFA, with team members Cao Weizhi, Chen Yining, and Zhang Xinyu contributing to its realization. The project took place from November 2021 to February 2022 in Shenyang.

Recognized for its excellence, the Paper Folding Lifeboat was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility, and Transportation Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. The Paper Folding Lifeboat stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a safer world.
